Mary in Northern Michigan is doing a fantastic job of spreading the news about Kids First, and furthering the dreams of the mothers involved in our group to support themselves and their children through selling their outstanding craftwork. Check out these great pictures of Mary selling the crafts at a recent market. The delicate handiwork is always mind-blowing - shiny beautiful beads made from scraps of paper and intricately woven baskets and bowels. ![]() We're hoping to start up a regular stall in Cambridge, NZ too - at the monthly markets. Watch this space! Quality hand crafted jewellery, bags, baskets, supporting kids and mothers in Uganda!

Remember Harriet, whom we recently blogged about? Well check out these photos of her at boarding school with her friends - even standing on her own!!
If you want to change the life of a child like Harriet, get in touch through this website or through our facebook page. "You asked about Harriet. She is one of the most vulnerable kids we have ever had on the project, and this is her story: She was born to an abusive alcoholic mum, who has ten children all from different fathers. She could get raped while she was drunk and so she can not even tell me who is the father of Harriet. She works as a housemaid, but because of her drunkenness she has been fired from most jobs she gets because she fails to turn up at work on time. Then she ended up even failing to pay her rent, so by the time I got to know them they were staying in a shack without even a door. It was given to them by a good samaritan after they were found homeless. Most of the time she could leave this young girl in the house alone, and it's not in a good neighbourhood so Harriet could be raped any time. "They stay with Harriet's big brother who is just a teen but he has been spoiled by using drugs, and he raped a young girl who he got pregnant. So that means Harriet was also not safe staying in the same house with him. "Harriet's health was not good because of poor care. In fact as she was growing up her mother realised something was wrong with her legs because she could not stand straight. If Harriet was not helped out of this situation she would never get a chance for education and her security is at risk. "So you were asking about her story to put on facebook. If you can write about her that would be so good because Kids First has been like a door to the world for this young lovely girl." Thanks to Joshua and Mary finding a sponsor for Harriet, she is having ongoing medical costs paid for, and is now in boarding school - a safe environment with food, water, education and new friends. Instead of going home in the holidays, where she would be put back at risk, alternative accommodation is being found to keep her safe and healthy. "I just want to give you a brief update about Harriet. Harriet is doing so well and she is being loved and well looked after at school. I have attached some photos of her in this email. With this treatment she is getting better" |
