This one's for our sponsors! The other day Sunny and Sarah were fortunate enough to go along to the TEAR Fund event where Strahan was playing some tunes off his latest album, and Richmond Wandera gave us his testimony. Richmond is Ugandan. For more on his background click here. Basically, starving and hungry, living in the slums, his mum heard about child sponsorship. She didn't know much about it but knew it had to be better than what they had. Richmond was the first of his siblings to be sponsored. Along with that sponsorship he was given a mosquito net, under which he and his siblings would sleep - all squashed in to fit. Why? Mosquitos = malaria = death. Every night these kids lived in fear of contracting malaria in their sleep and dying from it, as so many kids do in Uganda. This mosquito net meant they could sleep free from the fear of death. When we heard that we just thought, WOW. Something so simple yet life changing and life saving. We asked Joshua how much a mosquito net would cost in Kampala. About 10,000 Ugandan Shillings. Less than 5 NZ dollars. So we've decided, at the end of this year, we're giving each sponsored child a mosquito net. And from now on in, the first $5 for every new sponsored child will go to buying them a mosquito net. So they too can know what it is to sleep without fear of death from something as small as a mosquito bite. As well as freedom from the fear of contracting malaria in their sleep, a mosquito net will give some financial freedom to families. How? Our families' incomes are not big. Anything left over is usually spent on health problems, and that is usually malaria. By preventing malaria, we can actually increase what our families can spend on food, education, and other essentials! Sponsors:If you would like to contribute $5 for your sponsored child, please add it to one of your payments before Christmas. We will post the mosquito nets in January.
No child will miss out. We will personally give $5 for every child without a mosquito net from their sponsor.
