Is your heart broken? Mine is. Recently Joshua decided to meet with the girls involved in Kids First, with the help of some of the mothers. In Ugandan society, girls don't have a strong voice and aren't encouraged to speak out. All our girls were given a chance to write anonymously on paper their biggest concerns or worries. The idea was that even if they are afraid to speak out publicly about their problems, if they are able to let us know this way, hopefully we can do something about them.
What came to light was absolutely heartbreaking and gut wrenching. Another related problem is that our girls have been limited in how much sport they can play on the local field (where our boys train and play soccer) due to the risk from male passerbys. Lameck (our coach) alone isn't enough to protect them. Other problems surfaced: our girls don't have access to sanitary items. Just imagine being 13, at school, with your period, and...what do you do!? Some of our girls don't even have enough underwear. What if this was your daughter? Your sister? What if this was your reality?? Obviously there is a lot that needs to be done. But right now ladies (and men!), there is something you can do: help us provide sanitary items and/or underwear to our girls and young women. Please please consider donating items or money to help these beautiful girls. If you want to know more, want to sponsor, or have any questions, please just click below and send us a message.
